Director of Special Education Message:
The year is going so quickly.

The Special Education Office has been very busy conducting Annual Reviews and Reevaluation meetings for all students classified as a student with a disability.  Based on feedback we have changed the notification system to a degree.  Now, meeting notices are sent out two weeks prior to the meeting date.  An additional mailing that includes a reminder and a copy of the draft IEP are sent one week prior to the meeting.  Hopefully this time frame will make it easier for people to plan and attend the meeting for their child.  Any addtional feedback is appreciated.

504 Committee meetings will be held in June to make sure 504s are in place for those students for September.

CPSE reviews will also be held in May and June to make sure plans are set for these individuals.

All final copies of IEPs and 504 Plans will be sent out in late June as these are not in effect until next school year.

We look forward to working with you to make the best plan possible for your child.  Should you have any concerns or feedback please don't hesitate to let us know!

What does this stand for?
Have you been in a meeting and heard initials that you don't understand? Here are a few defined...
CT - Consultant Teacher - This is a service where a Special Education teacher goes to the class with your child and assists them.  It may be with notes, it may be focusing, it may be modifying the work or some other area.  If it is Consultant Teacher - Direct the teacher will be in the class with your child.  If it is Consultant Teacher - Indirect the teacher will work with the classroom teacher to help them with things for your child.

IEP- Individualized Education Program (not "plan") - An IEP is an important legal document. It spells out your child's learning needs, the services the school will provide and how progress will be measured. Several people, including parents, are involved in creating the document.

CSE - Committee on Special Education

CPSE - Committee on Preschool Special Education

RTI - Response to Intervention - Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom.
