Hello, my name is Sandra Salisbury, and I am running for the open seat on the Schenevus Central School Board of Education, resulting from Elizabeth Reed’s end-of-term.
Who am I?
I am a lifelong community resident, living in the district for all but 6 years of my life. I am a wife and mother to 4 amazing children, three of whom have graduated from Schenevus; the youngest is currently in 5th grade. I am a 1994, second-generation graduate of Schenevus. I am invested in the future of our students, the preservation of our building and history, as well as being committed to finding the best, most cost-effective way to rebuild our district.
What can I bring to the board?
I am an effective communicator, information processor, consensus builder, leader, and team player. I have an AAS in Accounting and a Teaching Assistant Certificate. Through various supervisory roles, I have learned that listening and talking to people, asking tough questions, doing research, and relaying information clearly and concisely are some of the best ways to effectively communicate with others. These roles have also taught me how to organize and prioritize large amounts of information, and how to work with others to achieve a common goal. As a board member, I feel it is important to listen to the community, teachers, staff, students, and board colleagues when making decisions regarding their futures and the future of the district. I feel it is equally important to keep the community informed by being as transparent as possible.
I am a community participant. I am a Girl Scout Leader, a PTO member, and a substitute teacher for the district since 2018. I have a good relationship with parents, students, teachers, and members of the community.
I am a decision-maker. In my personal life, I have faced the need to make numerous decisions where my head and heart haven’t always agreed. I believe the toughest decisions need to be made with your head and not your heart. I like to know the facts before making decisions and will do my own research if necessary.
I look forward to serving the Schenevus community and upholding the district’s mission statement.
