On Tuesday, Schenevus Central School District voters approved the district’s proposed $9,582,185 budget for the 2021-22 school year by a margin of 208-130. Voters also approved a proposition to purchase one 65-passenger bus at a cost not to exceed $122,000, and elected Cory Spooner to the Board of Education.
Because the proposed tax levy increase of 6.5% or $229,118 exceeded the district’s tax levy limit (or “tax cap,”) a 60% supermajority was needed to approve the budget. The proposal was approved by 61.5% of voters.
“We are grateful to the voters for their support,” Superintendent Theresa Carlin said. “This budget will enable us to sustain our current academic programs throughout the coming school year.”
All Schenevus Central School District residents are invited to complete an online survey to provide feedback on the budget and the district’s proposed merger with Worcester Central School District: https://forms.gle/bFtmLTdr8CLoxMs98
The anonymous survey will remain open through Friday, May 21.
