Dear Schenevus and Charlotte Valley School Staff and Community Members,

We are writing to share an opportunity for our two school districts to work together in a way that supports our students, strengthens our programs, and makes responsible use of taxpayer dollars.

Over the past few years, our districts have demonstrated that collaboration can be successful and beneficial to both school communities. We have worked together to share athletic teams, transportation services, our award-winning shared marching band and drumline, and, most recently, a shared bus mechanic. These partnerships have allowed us to maintain and expand opportunities for students while making thoughtful and efficient use of our resources. The success of these shared services demonstrates what can be accomplished when two districts work together toward common goals.

Building on this history of cooperation, both Boards of Education have agreed to move forward with the concept of sharing a superintendent between our two districts. Under this arrangement, the superintendent would divide their time between the schools, spending approximately half of their time in each district while providing leadership, guidance, and support to both school communities.

Just as importantly, this arrangement is intended to maintain a strong administrative presence in both schools. Each district would continue to have its own identity, traditions, and priorities, with the superintendent working closely with the Board of Education, administrators, staff, students, and families in each community.

Both Boards recognize the importance of making decisions that are fiscally responsible while keeping student learning and educational opportunities at the forefront. Based on the success of our existing shared services and a careful consideration of the options available, both Boards believe that sharing a superintendent is a positive step toward meeting the needs of their respective school communities.

We understand that any change involving district leadership may raise questions. Our goal is to approach this opportunity thoughtfully, transparently, and collaboratively, with the best interests of both districts guiding our decisions. By building on the partnerships that have already proven successful, we believe we can continue to find ways to strengthen our schools, support our students, and responsibly manage taxpayer resources.

We appreciate the continued support of our families, staff, students, and community members as we work together to ensure that both districts remain strong and continue to provide meaningful opportunities for every student.
